Red Book Prayers

For many years, prior to Vatican Council II, and after a book of Community Prayers was used for daily prayer.  Now the Divine Office is prayed in all Cenacles.  These prayers, some that date back into the early years of the Community, were placed in a bound book, and published in 1965.  The contents were earlier authorized by the General Cenacle in 1961 and approved by the General Council in 1964.

Here are a few of those prayers, for various occasions, that you may find useful in your personal or communal prayer.

Morning Prayers:

O God, we are in your august presence.  We know that you see us, hear us, and know our thoughts and desires, even the most secret movements of our hearts.  We know that you are listening to us and are graciously willing to hear our prayers.  Grant us your grace to offer them with such fevor that we may draw upon us the blessings of your goodness and mercy.

O God, you have brought us safely to the beginning of this day, save us by your grace from falling into sin during it.  Grant that during it we may know and love and serve you more and more, and mercifully vouchsafe that all our thoughts, words and actions, being directed by your powerful assistance, may tend to the accomplishment of your hole will.  Amen.

For the Missionary Cenacle:

O God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, deign to bless your Missionary Cenacle family. Grant that all those who come under their care may never be lost to your grace, many never be lost to the Faith, but that they and we may attain to the joys of eternal life.

O God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, bless our children; save them from harm of soul and body; bless our Missionary Cenacles, our schools, our novitiates, our shrines, our pilgrimages, our magazines, our appeals, our retreat and catechetical centers, the works we have in hand.

Prayer For All Our Sick

Almighty, everlasting God, the eternal salvation of those who believe, hear us in behalf of our sick, for whom we implore the help of your mercy, that, being restored to health, they may render thanks to you, in your Church, through the same Christ our Lord.

Let us Pray for Vocations and for the Success of Missionary Cenacle Endeavors

O God, who willed that all be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth: send forth, we beseech you, laborers into your harvest and grant them to speak your word with all confidence; that your word may spread and be understood, and that all peoples may know you, the only true God, and Him whom you have sent, Jesus Christ, you Son, our Lord; who lives and reigns with you world without end. Amen

Prayer for our Benefactors:

May it please you, O Lord, to reward with eternal life all those who do good to us for your name’s sake.  Amen.

For Peace, Unity and Charity Among us:

Most Holy Virgin of the Cenacle, our Mother, Mary Immaculate, obtain for us, we humbly pray, the gifts of the Holy Spirit, that we may live in charity and persevere with one accord in prayer, under your guidance and teaching, to the greater glory of God, that we may labor both by word and work for the salvation of souls and may deserve to enter into everlasting life.

Graciously be near to us, O our Lady of the Cenacle, in our present needs, and succor us by your power, that Almighty God may be pleased to grant us, through your pleading, the favor for which we earnestly pray.  Amen.

Prayer to St. Joseph

O glorious St. Joseph, faithful follower of Jesus Christ, to you do we raise our hearts and hands to implore your powerful intercession in obtaining from the benign heart of Jesus all the helps and graces necessary for our spiritual and temporal welfare: particularly the grace of a happy death and the favor we now implore………

O guardian of the Word Incarnate, we feel animated with confidence that your prayers on our behalf will be graciously heard before the throne of God.
